# RobCo OS: Strategic Simulation (Fallout Risk)
Wasteland Conquest is a free, browser-based strategy game inspired by Risk and the Fallout universe.
Welcome to the RobCo OS Strategic Simulation. This is a completely free, browser-based tactical strategy game set in the Fallout universe.
**Note on Naming:** This project was formerly titled "RobCo OS: Strategic Simulation." We have officially rebranded to **Wasteland Conquest** as of the latest version. This game is an independent project and has no affiliation with the "Wasteland Conquest" mod or any other software sharing the same name.
You play as a wasteland commander tasked with outmaneuvering rival factions, managing resources, and surviving environmental hazards to claim all 42 territories on the map. The game is 100% free to play, download, and modify.

## How to Play
## Features
If you are new to the wasteland, here is exactly how a standard turn works:
### Combat and V.A.T.S.
The game uses a V.A.T.S. interface to handle battles. Before you attack, the system shows your win probability based on troop counts and your chosen difficulty (Easy, Normal, or Hard).
### 1. The Boot Sequence
### Game Modes
When you load the game, you will be prompted to set up your simulation. You can choose your holographic map theme (Capital Wasteland or Mojave), input your Commander's name, and select a faction color. You can also toggle environmental hazards and adjust the AI difficulty.
You can play with standard Risk rules or use presets to change how the game works:
### 2. Phase 1: Deploy
* Classic Conquest: Normal Risk rules. No special hazards or heroes. Uses simple card-trading for extra troops.
At the start of your turn, you will receive reserve troops based on the number of territories you control.
* Wasteland Survival: Adds Fog of War, radstorms, and feral ghouls. You'll need to manage Bottle Caps to buy reinforcements.
* **To deploy:** Click on any territory you already own to add 1 troop to its garrison.
* Heroes of the Wasteland: Enables unique Faction Perks and Commander units. If your Commander dies, you lose.
* **Shortcut:** Hold the `SHIFT` key while clicking to deploy your entire reserve pool into that territory all at once.
* Apocalypse Now: A high-difficulty mode with frequent hazards and nuclear weapons enabled.
* Alliance Warfare: You start with a permanent ally. You win or lose together by coordinating attacks and defense.
* Covert Warfare: Focuses on stealth. Maximum Fog of War and faction perks that help you move unseen.
* Nuclear Option: A race to find launch codes and take control of silos to wipe out enemy garrisons.
* Custom Rules: Mix and match any of the above settings.
### 3. Phase 2: Combat (V.A.T.S.)
### Economy
Once your reserves are placed, you enter the Battle Phase.
Instead of just trading cards, most modes use a Bottle Cap economy. You earn caps from your territories each turn and spend them to recruit troops, hire mercenaries, or bribe other factions.
* **To attack:** Click one of your territories that has at least 2 troops in it (this highlights it). Then, click an adjacent enemy territory.
* **Using V.A.T.S.:** Before you attack, hover your mouse over the enemy territory. The Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System will pop up, calculating your exact mathematical probability of winning the battle based on your army size and the difficulty setting.
* **Victory:** If you defeat the enemy, you will be prompted to type in exactly how many troops you want to move into the newly conquered land. (You must leave at least 1 troop behind to guard your staging area).
### 4. Phase 3: Maneuver
### Commander units
When you are finished attacking, you may make **one** tactical maneuver before ending your turn.
Assign a Commander to your army. They have their own HP and AP (Action Points) and provide combat bonuses. Keep them alive—losing your leader ends your game.
* **To maneuver:** Click a territory you own, then click another connected territory you own. You will be prompted to type in how many troops you want to shuffle between them to reinforce your borders.
### 5. Managing Bottle Caps
### Nukes (Scorched Earth)
Every turn you successfully conquer at least one territory, you earn a Bottle Cap card.
Control Nuclear Silos and find 4 hidden launch codes to gain access to nukes. You can use them to clear out enemy territories or take out rival Commanders.
* Click "Open Stash" on the left panel to view your Caps.
* If you collect 3 of the same kind, or 1 of each unique kind, the Stash button will glow. You can trade these Caps in for a massive influx of reserve troops.
### Hazards and Random Events
* **Pro-Tip:** If you completely wipe an enemy faction off the map, you instantly steal their entire unspent Cap stash!
The map isn't static.
* Radstorms: Radioactive clouds that move across the map and kill a percentage of troops.
* Wild Ghouls: Neutral territories can spawn ghouls that multiply if you don't clear them out.
* Encounters: Randomly discover abandoned Vaults or radio signals that give you items like Bobbleheads or Stimpaks.

## How It Was Made
## Saving and Loading
Strategic progress can be saved at any time using the **Save Holotape**, which downloads your current game state as a JSON file. To resume your conquest, use the **Load Holotape** option to upload your saved file back into the terminal.
This project was built entirely using standard web technologies: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It does not require a database, a backend server, or any complex installation—everything runs directly inside your web browser.
The game started as a fork of the open-source HTML5 Canvas Risk Game originally developed by Vinayak Vedantam.
To transform it into a robust Fallout-themed experience, I collaborated with an AI (Google Gemini) as a coding partner. Through guided prompt engineering, we overhauled the core engine to inject dynamic game loops, rewrite the combat math (implementing Gambler's Ruin algorithms for the V.A.T.S. targeting), design the CSS terminal aesthetics, and build out complex features like the roaming Radstorms and automated AI behavior.

## Download & Installation
## Mobile Support
The simulation is not yet fully mobile-friendly, but responsive layout updates are currently in progress. It is currently best played on a desktop or in Landscape Mode on larger mobile devices.
Because the game is completely self-contained, you don't need to install anything to play it.
1. Open the `index.html` file in your browser.
2. To save the game to your computer for offline play, simply right-click the page and select **Save As...**, making sure to save it as a "Webpage, Single File" or `.html`.
*(If you want the Pip-Boy Radio to work locally, place the MP3 files in the same folder as the HTML file.*

## Change Log
**v1.9 [MOBILE PORT & HOTFIXES]**
- Commander Combat Adjustments: Assassinations are much harder. Troop damage to Commanders is reduced, ambushes are limited to once per turn, and entrenched Commanders require taking the territory first.
- Advanced AI Tactics: AI commanders now retreat at 50% HP, avoid crowded territories, hold defensive chokepoints, and navigate home intelligently if stranded.
- Turbo Mode Auto-Skip: The game now automatically advances the phase when your AP depletes.
- Smart UI & Map Upgrades: The map perfectly renders multiple VIP stars and adds V.A.T.S. hover warnings for entrenched targets.
- New Holotape Loaded: Added Fallout 4 (The Commonwealth) to the theme selector.
**v1.8 [MOBILE PORT & HOTFIXES]**
- Hardware Port: RobCo OS now natively supports handheld (mobile) terminals. Device must be rotated to Landscape mode to initialize.
- Threat Patch: Resolved a logic error preventing the Wild Ghouls subsystem from properly infesting unclaimed sectors at boot.
- The Status and Directive terminal readouts have been completely overhauled.
- Commanders now receive heavy home-turf damage resistance and can flip enemy territories after a ten-phase siege.
- When a faction's Commander is killed, their entire empire completely collapses into unowned, neutral wasteland.
- Wasteland diplomacy dynamically scales Ceasefire negotiations, trading exact Bottle Cap amounts for equal rounds of peace.
- The interface and map graphics have been optimized to provide a more stable, readable, and streamlined visual experience during gameplay.
- Shout-out to Alex for helping me debug.
**v1.7 [SCORCHED EARTH & COMMANDERS]**
- Scorched Earth: Optional Nuke Protocol. Secure Launch Codes and hold highly-defensible Command Silos to unleash permanent radiation.
- Commander Protocol: Each faction is led by a VIP (100 HP). If they die, you lose. Manage AP, Stimpaks, and map movement to survive.
- Wasteland Diplomacy: Implemented the ability to offer Caps to rivals for a 3-Round Ceasefire.
- Wasteland Karma: Breaking a truce now incurs a permanent "Betrayal Tax" and triggers retaliatory AI Spite Alliances.
**v1.6 [SECURITY & UI PROTOCOLS]**
- Anti-Hacking Patch: Implemented advanced input sanitization to block malicious code injection at the boot terminal.

**v1.5 [SYSTEMS UPGRADE]**
- V.A.T.S. Upgrade: Hover targeting now utilizes Gambler's Ruin algorithms to calculate total victory probability (capped at 95%).
- Customization: Faction color override matrix added to Boot Sequence.
- Cap Economy: Reserve pool expanded to 50, featuring dynamic "Wasteland Salvage" forging.
- UI Refinement: Overhauled the Survival Guide into a compact, tactical layout.
**v1.4 [COMBAT & LOOT PROTOCOLS]**
- Tactical Routing: Commanders may now dictate exact troop garrison sizes post-victory.
